She had heard it before, actually many times before but it still got to her. She didn't know how to respond to it, she really never did. A lot of times she just ignored it and tried to carry on. Some of the time she just told him to stop. This time...
"I... I don't know. Isadore, I have a lot of work to do. And I know you have an essay to finish."

He sighed, and nodded.
"And this is the part where you dismiss it like it's nothing. Then tell me I've got places to be. Again."
He stood, collecting himself. He took the chair back where it came from.
"I'll go. But I mean it."

Yes, she heard him and there was probably a better way to handle this but it always made her uncomfortable. Like there was a big knot in her stomach. She tried not to look at him, hugging her arm to herself.
"Goodnight, Isadore."

"I do love you."
He smiled a bit, and nodded.
"Good night."
He headed back to his dorm. Screw class.

This should have been the point where Erin sat down and weighed her emotions. His age, how she felt, what it meant, but instead she pushed it out of her mind and went back to feeding her plants.
This boy was going to give her an ulcer someday.
