He nodded. Sterling wasn't completely sure why, but he hadn't expected her to be upset when he said that. Maybe understanding.
"After this year I'll have finished everything I needed to take."

Well, she was upset. For the team. Of course. Without Sterling she lost her beater partner and they lost their team captain.
"But-! You did not say that!"

He shrugged a bit. He wasn't exactly happy about it. Leaving. It meant he had to move on. No sure spot on a team. No team to lead. He'd have to...live life. And hope some team picked him up.
"I've been here for a long time."

She wasn't okay with how calm he was being about this. He was acting like it was as simple as saying, 'oh, I'm going to the store this afternoon'. No, she was not about to just be fine with this.
"But what about quidditch?!"

It was something he'd taken a lot of time to come to terms with. He wasn't okay with it. But he knew it was inevitable. It had to happen. A bit of a sigh escaped his lips.
"I'll have to try for a professional team."
Hopefully they'd let him in.
"And I suppose I have to pick the new captain."
Something he'd though about.

"But-!"
She was too tired for this. Her emotions were all over the place. Not that she would be able to handle this on a normal day.
She made a frustrated noise. One she usually made when they were fighting.
"Well you should have said something!"
And that was her storming off, out the door and heading straight back for her dorm. She didn't know why she was so upset, but she was and she felt like she was right in being so but at the same time she already felt stupid. This was happening in a year, that was a long time. And who cared if Sterling left? They just fought all the time anyway. But then what would happen to the team?
Stupid Sterling, always thinking about himself.

He didn't respond. There wasn't anything he could say. Yes, he probably should have told the team he'd be leaving. But he didn't want to admit it to them. Or himself. Without the school, and the team he had nothing. That scared him a bit. Not really scared. Unnerved. That sounded a little better.
He made his way onwards.
And for once, maybe he was thinking about himself. Not the team. Not the game.
