He didn't do anything. He simply looked up at a couple of girls. They waved at him, he didn't wave back. Looking back to Lettie he could tell she wasn't amused. He could bounce back, though, he always did.
"Sorry about them. It comes with playing on the team. Sterling's got it worse off than I do."
He blinked for a moment, feigning confusion. He knew what she was thinking but he could act innocent.
"What's not going to work? Me coming over?"

He grinned. He grinned at a couple of silly little girls who were waving at him. Like silly little infatuated girls do.
"I'm sure he does."
She didn't really care. He could have all the silly little fangirls he wanted. There was no reason for her to care. It's not like he meant anything. He was some guy she'd just met. Some guy she was trying to get rid of. Right? Right.
So why hadn't she just shot him down yet?
"I don't know."
No. She did know. It's not going to work because she didn't want to be some conquest to some distraction. But she liked being distracted. It was really frustrating.
"I guess you can. But-"
But what?
"-the flirting is flattering..But it's not going to go that way."
Add some conviction to your voice, Lettie.

He was going to keep up the innocent. She was playing along so so could he. Besides, he didn't believe in girls just saying no for no reason. He wasn't about to start flirting.
She did say he could come, that was good, but he wasn't liking the circumstances. Yet.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Lettie."

"Okay."
She didn't believe him really. But what could she do? Call him a liar. No, she couldn't do that.
"I'm just saying it's not going to go anywhere."
Why wasn't it going to go anywhere? Because she was a stupid stupid girl. And there was something in her stupid stupid head that said no.

He sighed, feigning a bit of offense to cover his annoyance as he finally leaned away. He sat back, running his fingers through his hair.
"I don't know why you keep saying that."

"Because it needs to be said."
. . .
"Because I'm gay and don't want to lead you on."
She wasn't quite sure why she said it. It really wasn't true. It really really wasn't true. She liked guys just as much as the next sex starved twenty some odd girl. And for some reason she was going against human nature. But she was here for school, right? And if people thought she was gay maybe she'd make it through her years with decent grades...Besides, she liked having male friends. And most of the time with male friends they up and left once they figured out you weren't going to date them like they'd hoped. Maybe this would clear the way of the 'maybe we'll date's...? She didn't know! It just came out!

...
...
"...what?"
Sorry, no narration. His brain just shut off.

Yes, Douglas, it's surprising.
It surprised her too. Not that she let it show on her face. She just kept her tone calm and normal. Because it was normal, right? She was 'gay'. So this was 'normal'...
"I'm gay."
. . .
"I like girls."
This was too weird.

Okay brain, time to start up again.
He shook his head, brushing his hair away and actually smiling.
"No, seriously."
His voice actually held a bit of laughter behind it. He wasn't about to believe her. Sorry, that was just way too weird.

Okay. She had to make it more convincing. She had to. Otherwise this was all useless.
So she straightened herself up. Trying to make her tone more serious.
"Why is that hard to believe?"
That's right. Sound confused. Like why wouldn't he believe me I am.

No way was he going to lose this one. He sat up himself, still trying to wrap his brain around what was going on. This just didn't happen.
"I don't know... a pretty girl like you..?"
Yes, flirting was all he had to fall back on.

"Should pick up more girls than I do."
She was surprised how quickly that had come out. Maybe she should start improve? After all, she'd the split decision she was gay, and now she was going with it.
Lettie couldn't stop now. She wasn't sure how far she'd have to go to prove this one. But she would.

He blinked and that was it. He believed her. That was just too convincing. It was still difficult to really get it completely but for now there was nothing he could do.
"Um... well... That's... cool."
What was he supposed to do now? Back out and say nevermind about tonight? Well he sure as hell wasn't going to go now. What could he get out of it. But then he would sound like a sleaze.

Oh dear god. He believed her. Needless to say she was shocked. Completely shocked. It had worked? What did that mean? Was he going to get up and leave or something? Or make true to his offer? She had no clue.
"I guess, yeah. "
She nodded. Completely lost for what to do next. So she picked up her quill. Scratching lightly at the edge of her paper.
"Still a charms genius?"

Fuck no. Ugh, this sucked. If he slipped out now he was screwed. He may have been a playboy but he didn't need girls knowing he was a douchebag. He didn't want to help her with her assignment but what was he supposed to do?
...
This was stupid.
"You know it."
Not as confident now, but he was trying. He could get through this, even with that sour look behind his eyes.
