September 12th - Friday
The table in front of her was scattered with books, her dark hair was thrown up unceremoniously at the crown of her head, and her eyes were focused intently on the text in front of her. She was hard at work, that much was clear. It wasn't really school work, but personal research--something that Raven did more often than one who wanted a social life would openly admit--and she had been at it for hours. Her eyes were stinging from reading too much cramped typeface, and her head was starting to spin from way too much focusing, but she loved both of those things. To her, the pain of reading for too long was the equivalent to the burning muscles an Athlete feels after a day of hard training. This was her training, the aches in her head and eyes her humming muscles.
She made an odd sound at the back of her throat as she read a fact, and scribbled it down on a bit of parchment she had to her right, covered in similar scribbles of similar facts. Then, she dropped her quill onto the paper and leaned back with a sigh, pushing a frizzy lock of hair out of her face. "What time is it?" she thought aloud, and she pushed her sleeve up to look at the face of her black watch. Four in the afternoon. She had been there for almost eight hours. Scary.
She was hungry but she leaned forward again and got back to reading. The rumbling in her stomach would subside soon enough.

Class was over for the day and Rini was headed for the library. Just like yesterday, the day before that, and the day before that and all the way back to... well, she started school when she was six... It was a daily ritual, much like waking up and brushing her teeth in the morning. She would go to class and then shuffle on to the library to do some more work. It was pretty easy when you had no social life. When she was done here she would probably go harrass Keahi. Or go to bed.
No, today wasn't any different than any other day. Her hair was up in it's usual pigtails. Her sweater was hanging almost lower than her skirt and she still hadn't found her book bag. The only different about today was that... some disgusting couple of students had taken over her table in the back to apparently do no more than suck eachother's faces. And as for the other tables? Full.
She almost just turned around and went back to her dorm, but she knew her roommate was still fighting with her boyfriend, and if it was this packed here the commons would be even worse. She sighed, resigning herself to her fate. Shuffling over, she shifted uncomfortably at the edge of the apparently very studious girls table.
"Is this half of the table taken..?"
It would be a wonder if she heard her at all.

"Right. Practice. In two hours. I know. Sterling, calm down. I won't forget." He sighed. A big Quidditch match was coming up and the team captain was stressing. Again. He couldn't seem to get it into his mind that everyone was just as serious as he was. And that they wouldn't skip out on the practices. "I'll see you, then."
Dawson adjusted the strap on his shoulder, pushing his book bag behind him, and continued his way towards the library. There wasn't too much homework for him to finish, but he knew he'd have no time later. What, with practice and all. Plus he'd promised to help one of his team mates with something after. There really wasn't enough time in the day. Well, enough time in the days when he had things to do. He walked through the doorway into the library, frowning slightly at the lack of open seats. Great, he thought, heading to a bookshelf to find the reading material he needed.

When a strange girl popped up at her table, Raven immediately shuffled her things away from that side of the table. "It's free," she responded with a small smile, before returning to her work. She was friendly enough, she thought. But rubbish at anything other than kindness. Introverted, her mother called it. Comfortable alone, she thought.
The glance up at the small girl, however, provided Raven with something other than research to occupy her attention. She caught sight of a rather attractive boy and tapped her finger against her nose as she tried to place the face--she knew she knew it--and several moments past before the answer struck her. Dawson West. He was a quidditch player. Raven liked quidditch players. She blushed at the thought. She had never been one for the company of boys, but that didn't mean she didn't think about it. She returned to her reading, a tinge of pink on her cheeks.

Rini nodded, taking the seat at the end of the table. She hadn't seen this supposed attractive boy, and it didn't matter really, she was here to do her homework. Homework and a little extra work. Setting her books down in front of her, she set about setting up her work space. She intended on being here for a little while.
Pulling down her obviously very old Transfiguration Theory textbook, she opened it up to the page she needed, it seeming too yawn boredly in response and laying flat. Of course, her fluffy pink notebook/journal was less cooperative, flapping it's covers impatiently on top of the other pile of books.
Rini frowned.
"Hush."
She scolded it quietly, pulling it down and opening it up. Everytime she opened it it seemed to be the first page, but there was quite a bit in this journal. Many important things and not to mention all of her school notes. It seemed to calm down a bit while the other books sat by quietly. She really hoped the girl hadn't noticed...

He skimmed the titles of the books. It should be here, he frowned slightly. Maybe by Author? No, that wasn't right. These books were alphabetized by title in this area. Not enough by each Author to make it matter. Where are you...Come on, 'Divination through constellations' has to exist. Dawson sighed.
He turned, looking for the librarian. No where in sight. Just his luck. His eyes moved down to the closest table to him. Correction, the closest table that looked as though they might know. To his joy, two attractive girls were seated there. One seemed to be preoccupied by a slightly off pink notebook, while the other sat there reading. A slight tinge of color to her cheeks. He didn't even know her yet and he found that somehow endearing.
"Would either of you ladies happen to know where I can find 'Divination through constellations'?" He asked, walking over and leaning his hands slightly on the table, giving them both a smile. With a small laugh he added,"It isn't where I thought it would be."

Raven looked up and almost swooned, but she didn't. When he asked for the book, the tinge in her cheeks darkened, and she pulled up a stack of papers to reveal the book in question. Lifting it up, she held it out for him. "I don't need it," she assured. "I was going to read it later tonight. Something to keep me busy." And then she shut up, because she was talking way too much.
She busied herself with tidying up her papers and books and quills, trying hard not to look at him and trying harder to dim the colour in her face. There wasn't much to do. There was order in the chaos, that's the kind of girl she was. She cleared her throat awkwardly.

Rini hadn't even seen him coming. She was getting started on her work when he walked up and leaned on their tale. She saw his hands first, and so did her notebook. Luckily, though, she was used to it, and slammed the darned thing shut, holding it down before it could get away to nibble at his fingers. She quickly looked down at the table. Maybe he hadn't noticed.

Dawson could have sworn the pink book made an attempt at his hand. But he couldn't be positive, as he was quickly distracted by the other girl. She was rather cute. And she had the book he needed, which made him grin a little. "Thank you, I won't need it for long."
He gave them both a polite nod and started to turn to leave. Then he paused, turning back to face the table. "I don't mean to impose on you ladies or anything, but would you mind if I took a seat at your table? I won't be here for too long. And I promise I'm quiet." He gave a soft laugh, then continued. "Plus I wouldn't want to take your book away too far. I promise to return it to you before I leave."

"Oh!" Raven said, pulling more of the flood of papers toward her and away from the open seat. "You don't need to return it to me at all, I only wanted it. I didn't need it." she insisted, trying to make her papers behaved. They did, somewhat, and though they jutted out in several different directions, they stayed put, giving Dawson enough room to place his things. She felt a fool for being so caught up in her studies when these two strangers joined her, but she was hoping they didn't think too much. They didn't have to know that none of this was for class.
She started to organise papers, not wanting to go back to reading because she was so utterly self-conscious about the little sounds of agreement or interest she made when reading about Divination, and so positive that having Dawson there would make matters worse. And yes, it did seem that the girl's notebook had a hunger for the quidditch player's flesh. Raven kept her mouth shut about that, as she was so good at doing.

It wasn't hungry... persay, just... no, not friendly but... well, it wouldn't actually eat his hand, that was all that really mattered.
Keeping it shut tight, Rini didn't look up still, simply pulled her books closer to her. They kept quiet still. Afterall, most of them were very old books and though she knew they were happy she animated them, they really weren't as wound up as her notebook. She decided to take up this little corner of table, and maybe they wouldn't pay her any mind.

"Thank you. I only need the book for now, so it's alright that I don't take it." He gave both girls another smile, though it seemed as though the girl with the notebook didn't really want it. He sat in the empty seat, pulling parchment and another book out of his bag. Setting the bag on the ground he situated himself. Dawson couldn't help but survey the rest of the table, the books and papers. He was naturally curious about what they were doing. Call him nosey. He cleared his throat slightly. "I'm Dawson, by the way. Dawson West."

Luckily, Raven didn't say anything as potentially embarrassing as "I know", though he was probably used to getting that. Instead, she smiled and held out her hand, "Raven Karras," she told him and suddenly became very aware of her appearance. Her hair, the dust on her clothes from digging around in a library for hours. She must have looked horrid. She probably could have screamed, if she let it get to her too much. Well, if she let it get to her in a different way, because it certainly got to her. She chewed her lip and wished she had just stayed in her room.
"Are you a divination major?" she asked then, looking at the book. "That's a very informative book, I mean. Usually not for any extremely low-level classes."

He said his name and she couldn't help but glance up. She knew that name. Her cousin, Keahi, was positively obsessed with quidditch. He practically forced her to memorize everyone on the team. Dawson was one of them. A chaser to be exact.
She looked down again, flipping thepage in her textbook. Maybe if she didn't answer they wouldn't assume she was part of the conversation.

Dawson smiled. Raven. It was a nice name. He glanced at the other girl. For some reason he expected a name. He didn't get one. He was distracted, though, when he was about to ask. Divination major?
"Oh, no," He shook his head. "Astronomy. Though I'm not horrible at Divination, if you'll allow me to brag for a moment."
He smiled again, playing with the book idly in his hands.
