She's touching him. Cerys. A decade later and she's touching him.
He's not scared. Not crying. None of the feelings he normally had when she was around were there. It was different. He actually liked this feeling.
Cerys was close. He could hear her breathing. See her chest rise with every breath. Her warm hand on his cheek. J.L. took a moment to take in the sight of her. She was just as pretty as he remembered her. More mature, obviously. Not a lot had changed. She seemed happy, though.

*Happy?* *Mostly.* *She loves her home* *And her friends* *But she knows she's been missing something all this time* *No amount of starting her life over could change what happened before it*
*She's changed?* *She looks a little older* *More mature* *More hair* *Less clothes (sort of)* *But he looks... well*
*This isn't a new feeling* *She's done this before* *Only this time she's not wiping away his tears* *And she doesn't need to pull him into a hug* *No matter how much she wants to*
*She drops her hand slowly back to her side*
"Are you going here?"
*Of course he is* *Why else would he be here?*

Happier than he remembered her. They were both miserable. That was the word. Miserable. And she had changed. In a good way. He liked it.
"Yeah."
He nodded. It was an obvious answer. But someone needed to say something. Needing something to do he moved his foot to stomp out the already dead cigarette.
"Three years." Heh. "Care of Magickal Creatures."

*She lets out a desperate half laugh* *Three years?*
"You've been here that long?"

Heh.
He nodded.
"Yeah. Apparently I don't leave much."
That wasn't true. He just didn't end up at Wand repair shops, or candy shops.
. . .
"I'm on the Quidditch team too."
. . .well.
"Well. Reserve."

"Wow..."
*Three years in college* *Care of Magickal Creatures* *Quidditch?* *She's feeling a little lightheaded*
"I..."
*Heh* *She reaches up* *Brushing her hair back out of her face* *It falls back where it was almost instantly*
"You're so... big."
*...bad choice of words*

He had been there for a while. And done a number of things. He was in the spotlight a bit of the time, which wasn't his favorite. And it was in fact his own fault.
Heh. He watches her brush her hair away. And watches it fall back. Very nice.
Big?
He chuckled. That was a funny way to say things.
"Big?" J.L. shook his head. "I know what you mean. But it's a funny way to say things. And it has been a long time."

*Watches him for a moment* *Trying on a bit of a smile*
"No, I just meant big."
*And a joke* *Even if it wasn't in the most joking of tones* *He'll know*

*She laughs* *Not full out* *But enough* *It feels good* *And calms her down even more*
*She's going to just say it.* *Sitting down next to him on the step* *Wrapping her cloak around herself.*
"This is too fucking surreal."

He couldn't help but smile. Her laugh was nice to hear. Especially after so long. She was the one good thing about his past. The only thing he cared to remember.
And she was sitting next to him, years later.
Fucking surreal.
"My thoughts exactly."
After a moment he sighed, running his hand through his hair.
"You're not fucking with me, right? You're actually here."

*He's taller than her* *When the hell did he get so... big?*
*She watches him run his hands through his hair* *Before looking down at her feet on the ground in front of her*
*Heh*
"You know I'm not that funny."

He's a bit taller than her. And overall bigger than her. When did that happen? She used to be someone he had to literally look up to.
No, she's not that funny.
"Yeah."
Shakes his head.
"And it's not funny."

*She's not sure how she likes knowing that someone knows that much about her to know she's not funny* *Drystan and his family know her* *But this is different* *Completely*
*Heh* *Shakes her head*
"No. It's not."

It's too bad if she likes it or not. It's how things are. J.L. knows things about Cerys no one would ever guess. He knew terrible things. She didn't want him back in her life.
"This isn't funny. This is painfully not funny."
And yet he can't really help the smile that's on his face. Trying to push back a laugh. It's all too horrible.
